TORONTO POWER STRUGGLE LEADS TO CHANGES IN CROMBIE'S POWER

BidCo, the organization led by former Toronto Mayor
David Crombie that is trying to bring the 2008 Summer
Olympics to Toronto "will be replaced by a new group, says a
city hall document," and cited by Jack Lakey of the TORONTO
STAR. The new group will be called TO-Bid, according to the
agreement between the city and the Canadian Olympic
Association. The agreement "makes no mention of what role
-- if any -- will be played by Crombie." Some City
Councilors said that Toronto's bid "could be in big trouble
if Crombie doesn't remain in charge." But Toronto Mayor Mel
Lastman said Crombie "definitely has a position on the
committee" (Jack Lakey, TORONTO STAR, 4/21). Lastman: "I'm
the guy who commissioned him to do this. By getting us this
far, he's done a great job" (TORONTO SUN, 4/21).
