TYSON'S APPEARANCE ON PPV WRESTLING EVENT CATCHES EYE OF TCI

A World Wrestling Federation source said that they are
hoping to top 600,000 buys at $34.95 apiece for Mike Tyson's
WWF WrestleMania appearance yesterday in Boston, and "would
be ecstatic if Tyson's presence got them" 750,000 buys,
according to Ron Borges of the BOSTON GLOBE. If they reach
775,000, the event would gross roughly $26.5M in PPV sales,
half of which would go to the WWF. But Borges added that WWF
"had to work out a problem with TCI" before the event, as the
cable operator "was refusing to carry the event until it was
given assurances that Tyson's presence at WrestleMania would
not harm his efforts to win back his boxing license at a July
hearing." But that problem "was cleared up when" the NV
State Athletic Commission announced it had no opposition to
the event (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/29). A sellout crowd of 19,028
attended the FleetCenter event, generating $1,029,230 in gate
receipts. FleetCenter execs called it the highest grossing
one-day arena event in city history (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/30).
