HIP CHECKED: USOC NOT SATISFIED, WANTS TEAM USA APOLOGY

USOC Exec Dir Dick Schultz said the recent statement of
apology and $3,000 check from Team USA hockey Captain Chris
Chelios was a "wonderful gesture," but it will not end the
USOC's investigation into the matter, reports Bill Brubaker
of the WASHINGTON POST. Schultz suggested that the guilty
players step forward and accept responsibility, and that the
entire 23-member team make a "strong" apology in a newspaper
ad addressed to the American people. Schultz: "There needs
to be something a little more personal. ... I guess I'd like
to see them maybe take out an ad in The Washington Post or
USA Today and maybe the New York Times where they really
apologize to the American public." Schultz said the USOC
has not ruled out "any option," including banning all 23
players from future international competition (POST, 3/17).
