TEAM PROMO & CHARITY NEWS: MAVS OFFER BOOKS FOR TIX SPECIAL

          The Mavs collected new and used books for Saturday's
     game against the Nets and will do so again tonight against
     Celtics. In return, fans donating four or more books receive
     a voucher for two-for-one admission (for $9 and $21 tickets)
     to Thursday's Warriors game (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 3/14).
          SIXERS: The 76ers will host Nickelodeon Night March 29
     against the Celtics, featuring several pre-game activities. 
     For the event, the team is offering a "family friendly"
     ticket package of four tickets, four hot dogs, four soft
     drinks and a Keebler Gift Package for $76 (76ers).  
          ROCKETS: The Rockets hosted 600 schoolkids at the
     Compaq Center Saturday for the Best Shot program closing
     rally and awards ceremony.  Best Shot, part of the Clutch
     City Foundation, is an eight-week after-school program that
     involves 800 schoolkids in activities that include academic
     tutoring, cultural awareness, drug prevention and recreation
     basketball (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/15).
          T-WOLVES: The T-Wolves have teamed up with MN
     FoodShare, and are encouraging fans to bring non-perishable
     food donations, as well as any cash donations, to the team's
     remaining home games in March.  The Timberwolves Foundation
     will match the first $1,000 donated (T-Wolves).
          SHARKS: The Sharks and IBM are again teaming up with
     more than 100 of the Bay Area's top sports stars and
     celebrities to "Save School Sports" in the San Jose Unified
     School District.  The Sharks and IBM are presenting sponsors
     of the '98 Celebrity Waiter Luncheon, an annual fundraiser,
     Thursday at the San Jose Arena.  All proceeds will go toward
     youth sports programs (Sharks).  
          PANTHERS: NHL Panthers C Rob Niedermayer has formed
     "Robbie's Kids."  Each month he will purchase 15 tickets to
     a Panthers game and donate them to an organization.  The
     kids will receive Niedermayer T-shirts, photos and will get
     the chance to meet him (Panthers).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
