EXECUTIVE TRANSACTIONS: MAGOWAN RESIGNS AS SAFEWAY CHAIR

          Safeway Chair PETER MAGOWAN will resign that position
     in mid-May and turn over the reigns to Safeway President/CEO
     STEVE BURD, according to Carol Emert of the S.F. CHRONICLE. 
     Magowan, a descendant of the company's founders, has been
     Chair since 1980.  Magowan said that he has "not been
     actively involved" in Safeway since he left to run the
     Giants in '93 (S.F. CHRONICLE, 3/12)....Coca-Cola Bottling
     Co. Consolidated of Charlotte, NC, named heavyweight boxing
     champion EVANDER HOLYFIELD to its board.  It's the first
     corporate board membership for Holyfield (USA TODAY, 3/12).
