ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, SERGEI FEDOROV IS GONNA GET PAID

          Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford, on signing Red Wings
     holdout Sergei Fedorov to a six-year, $38M offer sheet: "We
     view this as an investment into the franchise, into the
     market and into the new building.  It all goes hand-in-hand
     when you get a player of Sergei's caliber" (DETROIT FREE
     PRESS, 2/20).  Rutherford said that when the Red Wings play
     in Carolina, "we have big crowds.  And 90 percent of the
     fans are wearing 'Fedorov' jerseys" (FREE PRESS, 2/20).   In
     Detroit, Joe Falls said that the Red Wings and Marion Ilitch
     "will give Fedorov what he wants" (DETROIT NEWS, 2/20).
