ROSS IS BOSS, FOR NOW, BUT CAN HE CASH IN ON OLYMPIC ORDEAL?

Canadian snowboarder Ross Rebagliati's positive drug
test for marijuana at the Olympic may have cost him $500,000
in lost endorsement income, according to Bernard Pilon of
the EDMONTON SUN. Agent Rick Winter: "Quite frankly,
Canadian corporations don't like to associate themselves
with someone who broke the law" (EDMONTON SUN, 2/13). TWI
VP Barry Frank: "I can't think of a single sponsor who would
take him, aside from the Hemp Growers of America." But in
Vancouver, John Mackie writes that "some people" think
Rebagliati's "marketing value could go sky-high,
particularly in snowboarding circles, which revel in their
alternative image." Agent Ron Perrick: "He could make
     millions of dollars. ... There's a TV movie, a book. ...
Before, it was a gold medal in snowboarding. Now the story
is much, much bigger" (VAN. SUN, 2/12). Rebagliati: "I'm
definitely going to change my lifestyle. Unfortunately, I'm
not going to change my friends. ... I might have to wear a
gas mask from now on, but, whatever" (CBS, 2/12).
