DEBARTOLO YORK'S POWER MOVE: IS SHE NOW FIRMLY IN CONTROL?

49ers co-Owner Denise DeBartolo York met Wednesday in
Youngstown, OH, with "members of the 49ers hierarchy" --
including team President Carmen Policy, VP & Dir of Football
Operations Dwight Clark and VP/Business Operations & CFO
Bill Duffy -- in "what is perceived as a signal that
DeBartolo York is in charge of the 49ers," according to
Clark Judge of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. The meeting
"appears to have settled questions about who's No. 1 -- at
least for now" and DeBartolo York "is believed to have
called" the meeting "to review all business transactions and
approve cash expenditures" for FY '98. DeBartolo York, "who
appears set to run the club more like a business, may cut
back on expenditures" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 2/12).
