HORNETS AND CHARLOTTE REKINDLE TALKS OF NEW UPTOWN ARENA

          Hornets and Charlotte officials discussed plans
     yesterday "to restart negotiations leading to a plush, new
     uptown arena by the 2004 season," according to Dan Chapman
     of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER.  Until then, the Hornets want to
     sell naming rights to the Charlotte Coliseum.  City Council
     members will be briefed on a proposed deal, which would
     include "a short-term, revenue-generating deal for the
     Hornets and a long-term plan" for a new arena, next month
     and asked to approve it by late March (OBSERVER, 2/13).
