LEAGUE NOTES

NFL: Following the resolution of a labor dispute in
favor of the NFLPA, the league's projected salary cap
"jumped another" $1M yesterday, to $52.507M for the '98
season (USA TODAY, 2/11)....Joe Kapp said that he and his
associates are "preparing to present" plans for their new
All-Star Football League to networks shut out of last
month's TV deals: "We think we have the people in position
to be heard by NBC and Ted Turner" (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 2/10).
IHL: The '99 IHL All-Star game will be played in
Cincinnati (IHL)....NFL Saints Owner Tom Benson, who was
awarded an IHL expansion franchise in New Orleans, said that
he thinks the city and IHL "would be a good fit," adding, "I
think we have a lot better opportunity to support one major
league and three [minor league teams], than you would have
to bring in another major league, where you're competing for
such high dollars. And you're getting away from more of the
     family-type entertainment" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 2/11).
