NAMES IN THE NEWS

          PATRICK EWING will participate in the '98 NBA TeamUp
     Celebration as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend.  KOBE
     BRYANT, TIM DUNCAN, and WNBA players SHERYL SWOOPES and
     NIKKI McCRAY will also join in the festivities (NBAE).  The
     TeamUp broadcast will be co-produced by RUDY CREW JR., the
     eldest son of NYC Schools Chancellor RUDY CREW (DAILY NEWS,
     1/29)....YASMINE BLEETH of "Baywatch" will be the female
     lead in the upcoming Universal project "BASEketball."  The
     film, based on a sport created by "Airplane!" director DAVID
     ZUCKER which combines basketball and baseball "with all the
     running taken out of the game," will also feature cameos by
     BOB COSTAS and AL MICHAELS (REUTERS/VARIETY, 1/29).
