"PRESSING MATTERS" CAUSE WNBA TO DECLINE ABL'S STARRY INVITE

          WNBA President Val Ackerman has declined ABL CEO Gary
     Cavalli's proposal for an All-Star Game between the two
     leagues, saying there were "more pressing matters" for her
     league, according to Bruce Berlet of the HARTFORD COURANT. 
     Ackerman cited expansion, of both teams and schedule, as one
     of the matters, adding that she agreed there are "great
     benefits in bringing the best players together on the same
     court," but that "for now," USA Basketball competitions
     offer the "best opportunity" for such a scenario.  Cavalli
     could not be reached for comment (HARTFORD COURANT, 1/27).
