PENGUINS NAMING RIGHTS DEAL STILL TAKING UP ENERGY IN PITT

Pittsburgh Public Auditorium Authority officials said
Monday that Allegheny Energy "is still a favorite to buy the
Civic Arena's naming rights, but that could change if
another company makes a better offer," according to Michael
Coleman of the Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW. Authority execs
said they are considering whether other companies should be
allowed to bid on the arena's naming rights, which could be
sold to Allegheny Energy for $5M over six years and would
rename the arena the Allegheny Energy Dome. Coleman reports
that the six-year deal includes $500,000 in cash for the
authority, a five-year extension of the Penguins' lease at
the Civic Arena and reduced electricity costs at the arena.
The remaining $4.5M would be distributed to the Penguins and
the arena management group in "undetermined portions."
Allegheny officials said "their offer still stands," but
     that "they won't wait forever" (TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 1/27).
