SAN ANTONIO EYES FREEMAN EXPANSION; HOLT CAMPAIGN DONATIONS

An expansion study of San Antonio's Freeman Coliseum is
"weighing the feasibility" of turning the 9,800-seat county-
owned coliseum into a 15,000- to 20,000-seat facility,
according to Travis Poling of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS.
The "high-end" capacity at such a facility "potentially
could" meet the needs of the Spurs. But at 18,000 seats or
less, "the NBA team could be stuck in the mammoth Alamodome
for the foreseeable future." Spurs officials did not have
any comment on the expansion study (EXPRESS-NEWS, 1/25).
HOLT CONTRIBUTIONS: Spurs Chair Peter Holt "has been
the most-generous contributor" to San Antonio City Council
political campaigns since June, according to Williams &
Anderson of the EXPRESS-NEWS. The paper noted contributions
from June-December '97. Holt and his family gave $6,500 to
the campaigns of seven council members. Holt "rejects any
link between his donations and desire for a new arena."
Holt: "There's no arena push going on" (EXPRESS-NEWS, 1/25).
