REPORTS SAY REDESIGNS IN BOSTON COULD LEAD TO FULLER FENWAY

A plan to rebuild Fenway Park "right where it is - by
filling in the first- and third-base foul territory with
seats and pushing the entire playing field out across
Lansdowne Street - is getting serious consideration by team
officials," according to Cassidy & Flint of the BOSTON
GLOBE. The team is reportedly looking at a proposal by a
local architect, which adds seating behind the first and
third base lines, pushing the field and bleacher seats out,
and extending the stadium. The plan would "almost
certainly" include a new parking facility over the MA
Turnpike. While Red Sox Dir of Communications Kevin Shea
"denied" that the team was making headway on a plan to stay
at Fenway, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said that he was
"encouraged" by the news. When asked if the city was
prepared to help the team financially, or with developmental
issues, Menino said, "We'll work with the Red Sox. They're
an asset to the city" (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/21).
