FACILITY NOTES

The U.S. Supreme Court "refused yesterday to hear the
last in a long line of legal challenges to the new Mariners
ballpark, guaranteeing that construction aimed at a July 1999
opening can continue" (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 1/21).
...Renovation costs at Anaheim Stadium "have risen to" $115M,
as Disney Chair Michael Eisner "agreed to spend an extra $15
million on the renovation." The stadium, which reopens April
1, will feature a geyser that "will shoot water seven stories
in the air" after an Angels home run, as well as 82 colored
lights, music and fireworks. Fisher & Kingsley wrote that
stadium officials "may need whizbang appeal" to reach their
goal of selling 2.5 million tickets a year -- 800,000 more
than were sold in '97 (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 1/20).
