CTV SPORTS NET ACQUIRES FLAMES & OILERS -- OR DO THEY?

          CTV Sports Net (CTVSN) "has grabbed the regional
     rights" to NHL Oilers and Flames games next season,
     according to William Houston of the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL. 
     In addition to its national NHL package, CTVSN will carry a
     schedule of Oilers and Flames games that will be available
     in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  CTVSN is scheduled
     to launch in September.  Houston adds that CTVSN's rival
     net, TSN, "did not even bid" for either team's package and a
     source of Houston's said that CTVSN "got the Oiler and
     Flames package for a song" (GLOBE & MAIL, 1/20).  But in
     Edmonton, Oilers Owner Peter Pocklington denied the report:
     "[W]e haven't sold anything yet" (EDMONTON SUN, 1/20).
