RAPTORS SET TO HOST IHL FRANCHISE IN AIR CANADA

The Raptors are "planning to announce shortly" that an
IHL franchise will open the '99-2000 season in their new Air
Canada Centre, according to David Shoalts of the Toronto
GLOBE & MAIL. The team will be the former Phoenix
Roadrunners, who are "currently in suspension at the
request" of their owner, Edmonton businessman Lyle Abraham.
Negotiations now "concern the ownership structure" of the
team. Presently, Abraham is the majority owner, with four
others as minority partners, and "[i]t's possible the
Raptors will also become a partner" (GLOBE & MAIL, 1/20).
