RISING COSTS MAY PROMPT TEACHERS UNION TO SELL LEAFS STAKE

The head of the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan "says it
will be hard to justify the fund's ownership stake" in the
Maple Leafs "if player salaries continue to rise," according
to Paul Waldie of the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL. Pension Fund
President & CEO Claude Lamoureux, which owns 49% of the
Leafs: "If salaries continue to escalate, we'll have to work
hard to turn this into the sort of investment that our
people would like." Lamoureux said the fund "has no plans
to sell its stake and that the return has been adequate so
far. But it has to continue to generate a decent return or
it will be sold" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 12/13).
