AFTER CRITICISM, TIGERS EYE CHANGES TO THEIR NEW DEN

The Tigers, "responding to criticism" that designs for
their new ballpark were "too plain, are revamping" their
plans, according to Patricia Montemurri of the DETROIT FREE
PRESS. The "tentative redesign" makes the stadium 10 feet
taller and increases the number of corporate suites from 80
to 100 It would also "beef up" buildings which border the
stadium, making them two-stories tall rather than one,
giving the park "more visual impact." Tigers President John
McHale said that the new design would "slightly reduce" the
number of bleacher-type seats in the 40,000-seat park, but
that they would add "more chairs." McHale: "We're trying to
create ... a building with more of a presence ... which we
hope will respond to the opinions and, in some cases,
criticisms from the partners in our project." McHale was
"unclear" as to how much the changes will add to the
estimated $260M stadium cost (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 12/10).
