NBA: The Clippers drew their best crowd since moving to
the L.A. Sports Arena in '84, a standing room-only turnout
of 16,199 for their game last Friday versus the Bulls (USA
TODAY, 11/26)....The Hornets drew 22,617 for their game with
the Pistons last night, ending a run of 364 consecutive home
sellouts, which began in December '88 (Mult., 11/26).
NOTES: The NHL's approval vote for the $195M sale of
the Isles to a group headed by Steven Gluckstern and Howard
Milstein "likely" will be pushed back to the league's board
meetings January 17-18 (N.Y. POST, 11/26)....In
Philadelphia, twelve baseball fields are being renovated
through a program called "Field of Dreams," sponsored by
True Value Hardware, the Phillies and the USA Jaycee's
Foundation (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 11/25)....Two Letters to
the Editor in this week's SI comment on the magazine's
article in its October 27 issue, "Natural Disaster," which
examined fan support for the Hurricanes in Greensboro. Both
letters question the team's approach, and one suite owner
noted the team's costly tickets compared to the AHL Carolina
Monarchs who played in Greensboro last year: "Doesn't it
make more sense to have more reasonably priced seats full of
fans than all those expensive empty seats?" (SI, 11/25).
