First Union Corp. Chair Edward Crutchfield said that following the First Union acquisition of PA-based CoreStates Financial Corp., First Union's name "will go on" the CoreStates Center and that First Union will take over title sponsorship of the annual CoreStates U.S. Pro Cycling Championships (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 11/20). Also in Philadelphia, Paul Davies reports that the CoreStates Center "will be the First Union Center," and that the name change will "probably" go into effect in April after the deal is finalized (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 11/20).
