GOLF CENTRAL UPSETS SPORTSCENTER AT '97 CABLEACE AWARDS

          The National Academy of Cable Programming presented its
     '97 CableACE Awards over the weekend.  ESPN won four awards,
     while The Golf Channel, SportsChannel NY, HBO, CNN/SI and
     Showtime, each won one.  The following are the winners in
     sports related categories: SPORTS EVENTS COVERAGE SPECIAL:
     "Jackie Robinson Game," ESPN; SPORTS EVENTS COVERAGE SERIES:
     "Sunday Night Baseball," ESPN; SPORTS NEWS SERIES: "Golf
     Central," The Golf Channel; SPORTS INFORMATION SERIES:
     "Outside the Lines," ESPN; SPORTS INFORMATION SPECIAL:
     "Sports On The Silver Screen," HBO; SPORTS HOST: Dan
     Patrick, ESPN; PLAY-BY-PLAY ANNOUNCER: Mike Emrick, Devils
     hockey, SportsChannel New York; SPORTS COMMENTATOR/ ANALYST:
     Leigh Montville, CNN/SI; DIRECTING LIVE SPORTS SPECIAL OR
     SERIES: Bob Dunphy, "Holyfield-Tyson II," Showtime.  In
     other awards, Sandra Oh, who plays Rita on HBO's "Arli$$,"
     won Best Actress in a Comedy Series (THE DAILY).
