POHLAD MEETS WITH MLB IN PHOENIX; IS IT TIME FOR LAST RITES?

          MLB owners met Monday night in Phoenix with Twins Owner
     Carl Pohlad to hear the status of "stadium affairs" in MN,
     according to Whereatt & Weiner of the Minneapolis STAR
     TRIBUNE.  Meanwhile, "ballpark boosters ... were losing hope
     of jump-starting the process and two super fans began a
     camp-out vigil on the steps of the State Capitol to save the
     baseball team."  But "key stadium backers" said they "have
     virtually no confidence" that the defeat of a House bill
     last week can be reversed.  Stadium booster group Minnesota
     Wins' chief lobbyists, Larry Redmond: "It's over.  The team
     is gone. ... What else is there to do?  Thing only thing we
     haven't tried is human sacrifice" (STAR TRIBUNE, 11/18).
     Also in MN, Charley Walters writes that although it's
     "unlikely, some Twins insiders haven't given up hope of an
     additional special legislative session," with approval from
     North Carolina business exec Don Beaver, "to take place a
     week after Thanksgiving" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 11/18).
