The first BOSTON YOUTH SPORTS CONGRESS, at Roxbury
Community College on Saturday, brought together 450
political and corporate leaders, public safety and
university officials, sports organizers, parents and
children. The session was convened by Boston Mayor THOMAS
MENINO. Boston city officials received $50,000 from REEBOK
to pay for Saturday's conference (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/16).
NO ILLUSIONS: DENNIS RODMAN opened his new nightclub
Illusions on Saturday. The Las Vegas-style club features a
24-carat, gold portal that leads to the entry, where the
centerpiece is the wedding dress Rodman wore last year when
he announced his "wedding" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 11/17). In
Chicago, Phil Rosenthal writes that Illusions has a private
hideaway for athletes and other celebrities with "civilian
members to be charged a reported $5,000" (SUN-TIMES, 11/17).
NAMES: DON SHULA's Steak Houses, which includes six
restaurants, plans to open a seventh at The Alexander Hotel
in Miami Beach (MIAMI HERALD, 11/15)....JOHN ELWAY has co-
written his first children's book, an autobiography titled
"Comeback Kid," which is aimed at 7-12-year-olds (ROCKY
MOUNTAIN NEWS, 11/15)....DEAN SCHOENEWALD, who runs Mascot
Mania, was profiled in the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Schoenewald has
signed with the William Morris Agency, and "will soon begin
work on a mascot-based sitcom" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/16).
