A delegation of Northern VA political and business
leaders yesterday "began a three-city crash course in how to
build" an MLB stadium by touring Jacobs Field in Cleveland.
The group will visit the Ballpark in Arlington, TX, and
Coors Field in Denver today (WASHINGTON POST, 11/14).
...Sources familiar with the discussions said that two
committees commissioned by the Univ. of MD to consider a
replacement for the 42-year-old Cole Field House yesterday
voted to recommend a new $90M, 17,000-seat arena on an
undeveloped part of campus (WASHINGTON POST, 11/14)....In
Hartford, Gov. John Rowland yesterday postponed a vote
"indefinitely" on building a $107M football stadium for the
Univ. of CT "because support has collapsed in the state
Senate" (HARTFORD COURANT, 11/14)....In Dallas, sources
close to the talks said yesterday that the city's new arena
"will be built on the site of a TU Electric plant near the
West End, and 18-year-old Reunion Arena will avoid the
wrecking ball if the deal is approved" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS,
11/14)....In Indianapolis, Mayor Stephen Goldsmith said that
the "definitive proposal" for a new stadium lease to the
Colts "will be made within days" (STAR-NEWS, 11/14).
