PAUL BEESTON NOT FLYING AROUND NEW JAYS OWNERSHIP BID

The new group that has emerged in a late bid to
purchase the Blue Jays "is ready to sign on new partners,"
but MLB President & COO Paul Beeston "won't be one of them,"
according to Mike Rutsey of the TORONTO SUN. The new group,
headed by Toronto lawyer Lawrence Dale, includes former
Celtics Vice Chair Alan Cohen, former Pirates partner Harvey
Walken and former Canadian cabinet minister Greg Sorbara.
Sorbara: "Paul Beeston is not part of our group and has not
contacted us, absolutely not" (TORONTO SUN, 10/28).
Meanwhile, "pals" of Orioles GM Pat Gillick have said that
the former Jays GM has "been approached" by the Dale group,
and if the Dale group is successful, Gillick would return
to Toronto to be team president (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/27).
