ONLINE NEWS & NOTES: ONE MORE RECORD FOR DEAN AT UNC

          The UNC Web site, at www.goheels.com, "shattered
     records" on October 9 when 83,540 users logged on to read
     news of Dean Smith's retirement.  The previous daily high on
     www.goheels.com had been "about 16,000," according to Jill
     Newbold, interactive manager at Tar Heels Sports Marketing,
     which owns the site (TRIANGLE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/20).
          CLICK OR TREAT: SI For Kids has launched its annual
     Halloween Web site at www.sikids.com.  The site features a
     Haunted Mansion, where visitors are greeted by the likes of
     Martina Hingis, Tiger Woods and Troy Aikman (SI For Kids).
          SUPER SITE: The San Diego Super Bowl XXXII Host
     Committee unveiled its official Web site at www.superbowl
     host.org.  The site, developed and designed by CA-based
     CommerceWAVE Inc., will provide everything from online
     shopping to trivia games to video coverage of Super Bowl-
     related events (Super Bowl XXXII Host Committee).  
          WORM.COM: Dennis Rodman has joined AOL's Athlete
     Direct.  His first live chat session will take place at
     9:00pm ET next Wednesday. AOL Keyword: Athlete Direct. 
     Athlete Direct will also set up an official Rodman online
     area, offered exclusively to AOL members (Athlete Direct).  
          RATINGS: RelevantKnowledge's September ratings of World
     Wide Web usage shows that of the top 15 information/
     entertainment sites, ESPN SportsZone ranked 8th with 2.187
     million "unique users," CBS SportsLine ranked 13th with
     1.379 "unique users," and NFL.com ranked 14th with 1.173
     "unique users" (BROADCASTING & CABLE, 10/20 issue).
