WNBA AND SPONSORS TEAM-UP TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER

10.22.1997

          The WNBA received the '97 Pink Ribbon Award for New
     Initiatives from Self Magazine, for its contributions to the
     fight against breast cancer.  The WNBA featured two breast
     cancer awareness PSAs that ran on its game telecasts.  WNBA
     marketing partner GM, which donated $575,000 to the Nat'l
     Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations (NABCO), was also
     presented a Pink Ribbon Award.  Another WNBA partner, Lee
     Jeans, raised $20,000 for the Susan Komen Breast Cancer
     Foundation through its "Shoot for the Cure" program.  WNBA
     partner Champion contributed $25,000 to NABCO, which
     represented a portion of its WNBA merchandise sales (WNBA).
