EVERYBODY HAVE FRUM TONIGHT, EVERYBODY MURRAY FRUM TONIGHT

A group led by Murray Frum is "on the verge of being
approved" by MLB as the new owners of the Blue Jays after a
"decision to drop" real estate investor Jack Singer from
their group, according to Marty York of the Toronto GLOBE &
MAIL. Singer was reported to be the "largest potential
shareholder in the Frum group" with an investment of C$70M.
But a source "heavily involved" in negotiations between the
Frum group and Jays'-parent, Interbrew SA, said that MLB
execs "made it clear that they would not ratify any deal
that included Singer." York adds that it "appears" that MLB
"holds a grudge against" Singer due to his involvement in a
lawsuit against MLB in the '80s over his failed bid to
purchase the Royals. Sources said the Frum group has been
looking for investors to replace Singer and one source said
that they have convinced a "major financial institution" to
join the group. Frum would not confirm that Singer was no
longer part of his investment group (GLOBE & MAIL, 10/22).
