SPANOS WANTS TO BE KING, BUT ARE THEY FOR SALE?

Chargers Owner Alex Spanos has reiterated his interest
in the NBA Kings, according to R.E. Graswich of the
SACRAMENTO BEE. Spanos: "I'm interested in the Kings.
That's very accurate." Kings President Rick Benner said
that Managing General Partner Jim Thomas and Spanos have met
in recent years and discussed the franchise, but "no
negotiations are under way and none are scheduled." Thomas
didn't respond to interview requests from the BEE, but
Graswich reported that friends and associates of Thomas "say
recent events have diminished the pleasure he receives from
owning an NBA team." Graswich added that Spanos would keep
the team in Sacramento: "I can tell you there's no way I
would let that team leave our region" (SAC BEE, 10/18).
