HERE COMES THE FRUM? SOURCES SAY JAYS CLOSE TO DEAL

          The sale of the Blue Jays "will be concluded no later
     than today," according to a source close to the team cited
     by Mark Zwolinski of the TORONTO STAR.  The source said, "It
     won't go to Wednesday," referring to an apparent deal
     between Jays Owner Interbrew SA and a group led by Murray
     Frum.  Another source "close to the Frum group" said that "a
     deal is near."  But Zwolinkski notes reports of a late
     biddder for the team.  Former Jays GM Pat Gillick dismissed
     rumors that he was part of the new group bidding for the
     team.  Gillick: "No, I don't know the new group" (TORONTO
     STAR, 10/21).  Also in Toronto, Bob Elliott reports that ex-
     Mariners Owners Jeff Smulyan and George Argyros both said
     they are not part of any new group (TORONTO SUN, 10/21).
