COULD HUIZENGA FEED FISH TO THE MASSES?

CNBC's Tyler Mathisen reported last night that
"insiders say" that Marlins Owner Wayne Huizenga may be
floating a public offering in the team "to find out how much
his team would be worth in a stock sale" ("Business Center,"
CNBC, 10/20). But Huizenga told CNN/SI's Nick Charles that
unlike with his NHL Panthers, a stock offering "can't work
for this team." Huizenga: "It worked for the Panthers
because the Panthers were losing money but you could see
light at the end of the tunnel because we were building a
new building. ... You can't take a team public if there's no
light at the end of the tunnel. And there is no new
building planned for here, so therefore there's no light at
the end of the tunnel." Huizenga, on a possible sale of the
team: "We'll see. ... I've promised [the politicians and
businessmen] that I would not make a decision until after
this series was over" ("CNN/SI," CNN, 10/20).
