NBC'S PRELIMINARY OVERNIGHT FOR GAME TWO A 16.3/25

NBC said its preliminary overnight for Game Two of the
World Series is a 16.3/25, up from last year's 15.2/23,
which took place on a Monday night on Fox. Saturday's World
Series Game One received a 14.1/25 preliminary overnight,
down from last year's Yankees-Braves Sunday Game One which
earned a 17.0/26 (THE DAILY). In DC, John Carmody writes
that despite the low Saturday rating for Game One, NBC did
win the night (WASHINGTON POST, 10/20). In Miami, WTVJ-NBC
     earned a 39.8/60 for Game One, while WKYC-NBC did a 47.5/68
     in Cleveland (SUN-SENTINEL, 10/20). VARIETY's Gary Levin
wrote that the Marlins-Indians matchup "threatens to rank
near the cellar of baseball championship ratings." Chuck
Bachrach, Exec VP & Dir of Media & Programming at L.A.-based
ad agency Rubin Postaer & Associates: "Unless NBC comes up
with a unique way to promote the hell out of this, if you
ask me I think this could be unfortunately one of the more
uninteresting matchups we've seen in recent years" (N.Y.
     POST/VARIETY, 10/18).
