The Bulls continue their tour of Paris before the
McDonald's Championships this weekend. A full-length photo
of Michael Jordan was on the front page of the Paris
newspaper France-Soir on Wednesday under the French header,
"The Idol Of Young People Is In Paris." The story began:
"Michael Jordan is in Paris. That's better than the Pope.
It's God in person." Jordan was also the lead story on
"virtually all TV sportscasts in the city" (Lacy Banks,
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 10/16). This McDonald's Championship,
the eighth event held in Europe, will be the "best-attended
and most heavily-covered" in history, with a sell-out of
16,300 at the Bercy Arena and around 1,000 media credentials
issued (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 10/16). Asked at a press
conference what he plans to do for fun, Jordan said, "My
kids and wife are here, so we'll go on some tours to the
Luge, probably some shopping." In N.Y., Lisa Olson writes
the French media "snickered, delighted at catching Jordan."
Later, "all of Europe was aware that Jordan had
inadvertently dissed the Louvre" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/16).
