TAGLIABUE PUTS PACKERS' "FUZZY" STOCK PLAN ON HOLD

The Packers' plan for a new stock offering was put "on
hold" yesterday, as NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue called
the proposal "fuzzy," according to Frank Aukofer of the
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Tagliabue said the NFL and the
Packers needed to restructure the plan "to make it more
focused so that it was clear to everyone that the Packers
were a unique entity." Tagliabue called reports of the team
raising $80M through the offering was "highly speculative."
Tagliabue: "[$80M] is kind of a funny number ... the thing
that's critical is to understand that the Packers are not
for profit and this so-called stock is a very unique thing."
Packers President Bob Harlan said that he "hoped" to get the
issue resolved quickly, "perhaps as soon as today" when he
will participate in a conference call with Tagliabue and
other NFL officials (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/16).
