MGM SCORES TYSON KNOCKOUT OVER BREACHED CONTRACT

Since Mike Tyson's boxing license is revoked, the MGM
Grand "has decided to terminate its contract with Don King
Productions," according to Royce Feour of the LAS VEGAS
REVIEW-JOURNAL. There was only one Tyson fight left on
King's contract with MGM when Tyson's license was revoked in
July. MGM Grand COO Alex Yemenidjian told the AP: "We've
reached an understanding with Don King where Mike Tyson
will not have a sixth fight at the MGM." Yemenidjian added
that Tyson's contract "had been breached because Tyson would
not be available to fight before" his contract expired in
March. King received $27.5M of the $30M he had been
guaranteed in a stock deal with MGM Grand in '95 when he
received 618,557 shares of MGM stock. On Thursday,
Tracienda, the holding company for MGM's majority investor
Kirk Kerkorian purchased the 618,557 share from King for
$44.50 each (Las Vegas REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/27). With the
deal, Kerkorian increased his stake in MGM to 62.5%, or
36,239,822 shares (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 9/26).
