MARV ALBERT TRIAL TO BEGIN TODAY IN VIRGINIA

Marv Albert's trial on sexual assault charges begins
today with jury selection, according to Howard Manly of the
BOSTON GLOBE. An NBC exec said the network "will cover the
trial as news." The exec: "We're treating it like any other
celebrity trial. No more, no less" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/21).
In DC, Brooke Masters wrote that around two dozen TV trucks
will be outside the Arlington courthouse for the duration of
Albert's trial, and "more than" 50 media organizations have
picked up credentials (WASHINGTON POST, 9/21). Albert's
attorney, Roy Black, "expects this trial to last a week to a
week and a half," according to USA TODAY's Rudy Martzke.
Media buyer Paul Schulman: "If he's innocent, I believe NBC
puts him back on the air as soon as possible. ... If it ends
up in the grey area, then it's a tough decision." Grey
Advertising's Jon Mandel: "Even if he's not guilty, he still
has done harm to himself by not removing himself from the
air until this is cleared up" (USA TODAY, 9/22).
