LOCAL GROUP TO MAKE AN OFFER TO POCKLINGTON NEXT WEEK?

An offer by a local group to buy the NHL Oilers "will
be made within a week -- perhaps as early as Monday or
Tuesday," according to Terry Jones of the EDMONTON SUN. The
offer will be made under the Economic Development Edmonton
clause in Owner Peter Pocklington's Coliseum contract.
Jones: "[T]he offer will be made for exactly $70 million US
according to that existing agreement" (EDMONTON SUN, 9/12).
In Houston, Neil Hohlfeld adds that IHL Aeros Owners Chuck
Watson and partner Bob McNair are still interested in the
Oilers. Aeros GM Steve Patterson: "Both the league and Mr.
Pocklington know of our interest. When it comes to the
point where we feel it is in our best interest to move ...
you'll see that happen" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/12).
