STADIUM NOTES

          The Mayor of Garland, TX, will meet with Mavs execs
     regarding a new arena (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 8/27)....A
     plan for the MN Lottery to operate computerized keno games
     in restaurants and bars is the "latest" proposal for state-
     sponsored gambling to fund a new ballpark for the Twins (St.
     Paul PIONEER PRESS, 8/27)....A S.F. CHRONICLE editorial, on
     the proposed sale of the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum's
     naming rights to UMAX: "Oakland and Alameda County taxpayers
     should shed no tears over giving up their name on the
     stadium.  The real heartache is over how many of their tax
     dollars they are having to relinquish" (S.F. CHRONICLE,
     8/27)....The CA State Lands Commission approved the MLB
     Giants' lease for its China Basin ballpark.  The project
     faces one more "regulatory hurdle" on September 4 when the
     S.F. Bay Conservation and Development Commission is "set to
     consider granting a permit" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 8/27).
