NFL TEAMS WILL NO LONGER ANNOUNCE NO-SHOWS WITH ATTENDANCE

NFL teams will "fall in line with the rest" of the pro
sports and release only the number of tickets distributed for
games, after NFL attendance figures had reflected the actual
number of people in the stands in years past, according to
Mike Chappell of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS. Teams will no
longer announce "no-shows" in releasing attendance figures.
Colts Exec Dir of Operations Pete Ward: "We have been the
only (pro) league that has offered the no-show figure to the
public. ... Why offer something publicly that will be focused
on with a negative slant?" NFL VP/Communications Greg
Aiello: "Our policy hasn't (changed). It's up to the
individual clubs what they announce. That always has been
     the policy" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 8/23).
