IS OAKLAND COLISEUM TURNING TAIWANESE WITH UMAX DEAL?

The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum would become the
Umax Coliseum under a proposal to sell naming rights to the
Taiwanese high-tech company for $19M over ten years,
according to Rick DelVecchio of the S.F. CHRONICLE. The
Coliseum authority is expected to vote on the deal September
4, "unless a rival corporate sponsor offers more money."
While city and county officials "are entertaining at least
one other proposal," they "do not expect that suitor to match
Umax." The Raiders would have to approve the deal, since its
lease states that any new name must be one that does not
"reasonably embarrass" the team. The Raiders may reject as
many as three proposals to change the name. Naming rights
revenue would be split between the Raiders and the Coliseum,
with the A's not part of any deal (S.F. CHRONICLE, 8/23).
