FLYERS CHAIR SAYS TEAM OPERATES SOLELY ON HOCKEY REVENUES

          While "public perception" is that the Flyers have
     "finally tapped into the vast financial coffers of new owner
     Comcast," team Chair Ed Snider said the team "won't use a
     dime" from Comcast, according to Tim Panaccio of the
     PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER.  Snider said that the Flyers are
     "wholly operated" using hockey revenues and "will continue
     to do so."  Snider: "I don't care what people say, what the
     perception is. ...  They are not in business to subsidize
     us.  If we can't run the hockey team on sound business
     principles, it doesn't make sense for us to continue." 
     Panaccio adds that Comcast spokesperson Marlene Dooner
     "confirmed the Flyers have not asked for any financial
     assistance" and Comcast "didn't expect any such requests in
     the future" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/22).
          REVENUE STREAMING: In an effort to raise revenue, the
     Flyers will announce an "across-the-board" ticket increase,
     with top seats rising $5 to $57.50 and the more affordable
     seats up $2 to $20.  This will result in an additional $2M
     in revenues.  In other avenues, the Flyers' playoff run into
     the Stanley Cup Finals generated between $2.5-3M and
     revenues through TV rights could reach $1M as Comcast
     SportsNet channel debuts in October (PHILA. INQUIRER, 8/22).
