Competition is "heating up at the gates" of Camden
Yards, because "for the first time the Orioles have sent
vendors outside the gates to sell the official Orioles
Magazine, going head to head with the vendors selling
Outside Pitch, an independent magazine about the Orioles,"
according to Donna De Marco of the BALTIMORE BUSINESS
JOURNAL. De Marco: "Orioles officials say the Outside Pitch
vendors block the entrances of the ballpark and falsely
claim that Outside Pitch is the official Orioles program."
Orioles Assistant Dir of PR Bill Stetka: "We have no
problems with (them) selling outside the stadium. But we
will take action on an individual case basis when they are
not complying (with the law) or misrepresenting themselves."
Outside Pitch Publisher David Simone: "It's our first
amendment right to sell on city property. And the vendors
have strict orders not to say (it is the official program)."
The six-year old Outside Pitch has "nine different editions"
this season and sells for $2, while Orioles Magazine has
three $3 editions (BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/18 issue).
