FRANCHISE NOTES

Mets Co-Owner Fred Wilpon, on allowing Carl Everett to
continue playing baseball: "We're trying to do what's right
and fair and honorable; not to bury someone before we know
what the facts are" (N.Y. POST, 8/19)....With less than 48
hours to match the Flyers' $16.5M offer sheet for C Chris
Gratton, the Lightning have held discussions with Sunshine

(TAMPA TRIBUNE, 8/19)....USA TODAY's Hal Bodley writes that
News Corp. Co-CEOs Peter Chernin and Chase Carey are

(USA TODAY, 8/19)....Phillies VP/Ticket Ops Richard Deats
said the team's recent stretch of 15 wins in 19 games is
helping sell an extra 600 to 1,000 tickets per game. Deats:
"(The winning) is going to give us a bump for sure, but
we're not all of a sudden going to get 30,000 to 35,000 per
game" (PHILA. DAILY NEWS, 8/19)....ESPN's Linda Cohn
reported that White Sox season ticket-holders received a
letter offering $1 tickets for September games. Cohn:
"There's a catch -- all the tickets are for the upper deck

The letter goes on to state the month of September will be
crucial in Chicago's pursuit of the division leading
