COMCAST SPORTSNET SHOWING SIGNS OF LIFE

Comcast SportsNet has added Leslie Gudel, formerly of
Prime Network, and Neil Hartman, formerly of WKYW-TV in
Philadelphia, as its new evening sports anchors. Michael
Barkann, from Boston's WLVI-WB, has also joined Comcast as a
field reporter and studio host (THE DAILY). The lineup for
the new network was examined by Mike Bruton of the
PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. The channel will have a half-hour
show "most nights" at 11:00pm ET, along with a pre- and post-
game presence hosted by Barkann. An evening "SportsCenter-
style" show, with anchors Hartman and Gudel, as well as Fox
Sports Net programming, are also planned. Comcast SportsNet
may also air magazine shows, more locally driven profile
programming and a forum focusing on Atlantic Ten and Big East
personalities. SportsNet President Jack Williams: "We don't
want to take things that have been done and just move them
over here. There'd be nothing new" (PHILA. INQUIRER, 8/12).
