THE JAYHAWKS' NEW TUNE: I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE SWOOSH

The Univ. of Kansas and Nike signed a four-year deal
that makes Nike the exclusive footwear and apparel supplier
the school's 20 athletic teams, according to Bob Dutton of
the K.C. STAR. With "its royalty provisions for company
sales of authentic competition apparel," the deal could be
worth $2.5M a year for the university in revenue and
supplies. Nike will supply $105,000 in cash and $750,000 in
product apparel each year, and will pay $20,000 a year for
an athletic-department community service project and provide
an undergraduate summer internship in Beaverton. The school
will get 7.5% of all sales of authentic apparel, of which
its Athletic Department gets 55%. The deal does not contain
any performance bonuses (K.C. STAR, 8/14).
