AMERICAN SKIING CO. PARENT ASC HOLDINGS SET TO FLOAT IPO

          ME-based ASC Holdings, the parent of Les Otten's
     American Skiing Co., "plans to sell" $250M worth of stock to
     pay for its recent purchase of ski resorts in CO and NV,
     according to Edward Murphy of the PORTLAND (ME) PRESS
     HERALD.  The company said that it will also use some of the
     money raised to "repay debt."  Bear Sterns analyst Christine
     Lumpkins said that "many" have expected ASC to go public to
     finance Otten's "recent purchases."  No IPO price has been
     set (PRESS HERALD, 8/14).  Underwriters will be Donaldson
     Lufkin & Jenrette; Furman Selz; Morgan Stanley Dean Witter
     Discover; and Schroder & Co. (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 8/14).
