NBA TEAMS LOOK TO THE PAST FOR NEW UNIFORM DESIGNS

The "constantly evolving fashion frenzy" of NBA
uniforms was examined by ESPN's Chris McKendry on "NBA
Today." After the Jazz, Pistons and T-Wolves unveiled new
uniforms last year, the 76ers, Wizards, Warriors and Nets
roll out new, more "classic" looks in '97. NBA VP/Licensing
Apparel Sal LaRocca: "The whole marketplace has shifted back
towards where the Lakers uniform is." NBA Creative Dir Tom
O'Grady: "[W]ith the four teams we've done for the upcoming
year ... there's just a little bit more of a timeless look
to those logos and I think that that's going to help those
identities last longer." O'Grady, on what drives sales:
"Kids are a little bit less worried about the performance of
the team and more into the fashion. The adults are just the
opposite. They're like, 'We want our team to win and we'll
wear just about anything if they win'" ("NBA Today," 8/12).
