GOLF NEWS & NOTES: CALLAWAY COMPLETES PURCHASE OF ODYSSEY

          Callaway Golf announced that the transaction regarding
     the purchase of the assets of Odyssey Sports has been
     completed.  In July, Callaway reached an agreement with
     Odyssey-parent U.S. Industries to buy the putter company for
     $130M.  Callaway has named Ron Drapeau President & CEO of
     Odyssey Golf.  Callaway President & CEO Donald Dye will also
     serve as Chair of Odyssey Golf (Callaway).  
          NEWS & NOTES: Two clothing lines from Scotland's
     Pringle will be launched in the U.S. next month -- Pringle
     of Scotland and Faldo Pringle (GOLFWORLD, 8/9 issue)....The
     Topps Co. has been appointed the exclusive worldwide
     licensee to produce and market photography featuring Tiger
     Woods.  The company plans to market Tiger Woods posters
     under the license (Topps)....Golden Bear Golf announced 2Q
     revenue of $22.3M, up 164% from the $8.4M in '96.  For the
     six months ended June 30, 1997, revenues increased to
     $29.1M, up 128% from 12.8M in '96 (Golden Bear).
